About this photograph:
Another little-known area of Utah... not far from Paria, of which I presented a shot some days ago - at least for Southwestern Standards where you sometimes have a straight road for 30 miles and more (and you're glad about every little bump and pothole).

I found this wonderful scenery while driving through Angel Canyon, north of Kanab. It's an unpaved but well-maintained road that many people miss. Those who don't usually go there to visit or volunteer at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary (www.bestfriends.org), a great organisation that takes care of many abandoned animals from parrots to pigs, from cats and dogs to horses. You can also tour the place (for which, unfortunately, I hadn't brought enough time) and visit the various areas housing the animals.

But even just a lazy drive through the canyon will be worth the detour. Although it's just off highway 89, which can get very busy with tourists driving from one National Park to the other, it's a haven of peace and quiet. I even came across some wild turkeys there (no decent photo of that though), and some fascinating "chocolate-vanilla fudge" rocks that I might present some other day.

Have a great (sunny) weekend everybody, and cheer for Germany! ;o)
(okay, I admit it, I wasn't able to fight off the soccer virus... but just because there's no hockey at all right now!)

Hi Claudia,
Hmm, I think I might give my right arm to stand where you did and photography this beautiful location. Great light, rich and well saturated colors, and a perfectly composed image. Fine work. Gerald

Hi Caludia,
What a perfect setting. Cute charming little wooden hut nestles in such beautiful nature. The falls colors and red rock cliff adds so much to the warm and coziness of the image, great compo, good light, and technical quality is good. Love it.

Hello Claudia -

One of my wifes favorite charities. This is off the beaten path and worthy of the exploration that found it. I like the fall colors surrounding the old barn. This is technically and excellent image. Well done!

The Best Friends Animal Sanctuary used to also do a tour of the area to show you where they filmed The Lone Ranger shouting 'Hi Ho Silver! Away!' as Silver bounced on two back legs. I also remember they showed us a bluff where they always said 'Head 'em off at the pass!' in the old B Westerns. ;D I think it was a lure to get you to donate to the charity.
I love the typical red rock here accompanied by gorgeous autumn colours. As if that wasn't enough you also have the Ingall's little house. Nicely composed so the house is looking into the image (a quirk of mine!) Well done

Hallo Claudia,
Did you meet the Ingalls? ;-)
Lovely shot my dear, love the deep colours which makes this image really popping out of the screen, but also on the composition side it looks pretty good.
Liebe grusse, Henk

Hi Claudia,
We are glad you got off the tourist highway to explore and find this Kodak Moment. The old weathered barn looks almost permanent with the trees and ancient eroded cliff.

good job,
Ray

Ciao Claudia,

for a second I thought about that lonely barn at Fruita Historic District, Capitol Reef, then I realized I've never been here. Angel Canyon, uh? I've heard of it, as I've heard of the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Judging from your shot it sure looks like a great location. The barn seems to merge with surrounding sandstone and Autumn's first hints in a most natural way, I really like that.
Have a nice weekend. HUGS,

Fulvio.

hi Claudia,

the little house seems to blend in completely, its colours and textures have grown almost indistinguishable from the rocks and trees around it, and your composition works very well to convey this feeling.
on a technical side - I miss clarity. was the file heavily compressed? if you look closely, especially in the lower part of the photo, you can see the square pattern of artifacts that usually appears with compression.

best,
Kristine

Hello Claudia! Gruss, Barbara.

Hi my dear!

Cool shot and geez, that little house looks pretty lonesome with the huge cliff in its back! Wonderful autumn colors and very peaceful, your image. Worth the detour for sure!

So you got the soccer virus too? Hard to avoid, isn't it? Ironic that the only cure for it is to lose, because the more they win, the stronger the virus gets. But it's a fun virus, so who needs a cure??

Hugs!
Linda

Claudia, this is great, the composition is almost surreal with the cliff as the back drop. Is this in the fall of the year or are the trees and shrubs this colorful all year?

blueraven wrote in 2010/06/25 05:15:30: Thanks Greg! You guessed correctly, this was taken in the fall, sometime in October last year. I think the shrubs are usually green but their fall colours were gorgeous.

Best,
Claudia
